Temple University Project Speeding Digital-First Journalism

Temple University is partnering with newspapers in Dallas, Philadelphia and Miami on a project designed to help traditional newsrooms speed their adoption of mobile and digital-first practices.

The university's School of Media and Communication said Monday it's getting $1.3 million from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to serve as a testing ground for the technology, workflows, roles and skills needed in an increasingly digital journalism world.

The Dallas Morning News, Philadelphia Media Network's Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News and Philly.com, and Miami Herald are participating in the Knight-Temple Table Stakes Project.

A fourth newsroom may be added.

Temple says it'll produce research for use in journalism classrooms and curriculum design. The American Press Institute is contributing research on audience development, analytics and mobile technology.
