Spirit Airlines really wants customers to pay for extra carry on bags before they get to the airport.

Beginning Nov. 6, travelers showing up without having prepaid for baggage fees will now be subject to a $100 fee at the gate for last-minute carry on luggage, which is $55 more than the current fee.

The current fee for extra carry-on luggage, if paid ahead of time, is $40. That fee will increase to $50 next month.

The airline said one personal item per passenger is always free as long as it meets size and weight restrictions.

The increased fees are designed to cut down on delays.

Spirit Airlines serves dozens of domestic and international destinations and currently plans to add service to eight cities out of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport in 2013. Out of DFW, they currently fly to Atlanta, Atlantic City, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Myrtle Beach, New York, Orlando, Phoenix, Portland, San Diego, Tampa and Toluca/Mexico City.
