Spirit Airlines begins service to and from Chicago O'Hare out of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport Thursday.

The low-fare airline will begin serving the route with two flights per day just three months after moving into DFW.  A third flight will be added seasonally.

The airline currently also offers flights out of DFW to Las Vegas and their home base of Fort Lauderdale.

As with many new routes, Spirit's first arrival from Chicago will receive the traditional DFW Department of Public Safety "shower of affection" water cannon salute.

The flight is scheduled to arrive at 10:50 a.m.

In 2011, DFW has added three new airlines and nine international destinations.
