Developers say Park Lane will be a whole urban neighborhood in the heart of Dallas: big stores, big sidewalks and big apartments.
The development is going up across from NorthPark Center on Central Expressway. The combination of high-rise apartments, offices, stores and restaurants is simply called Park Lane for its location on Park Lane at Central.
A Dick's Sporting Goods is already open, and a Nordstrom Rack opens Thursday with an 8 a.m. drawing to "Race Through The Rack" on a shopping spree. In addition, a Whole Foods will open in October.
"It's a great location," said developer Blaine Lee, of Harvest Partners. "The demographics within a five-mile radius are perfect for every one of our tenants."
The mixed-use project has plenty of parking, but also sits beside a DART rail station.
Lee said it is designed for walking, with wide sidewalks and the best ideas he's seen included in other urban projects from South Florida to Seattle.
"Our deal was to get 24-hour-a-day activity, so we don't have any dead periods in the project," he said.
A health club with early hours will open soon, and apartments are already for rent in the 33-acre development.
Future plans include an office tower and hotel. The weak economy has pushed some of the plans back, but Park Lane is still opening, developers said.
"It's been a struggle, just like all things are," Lee said. "But our site is unique. This project is unique."
