The day after Christmas is usually one of the most popular days to go shopping, but it seems this year the crowds are much smaller.
The manager at the Target on Parker Road in Plano said they had about 15 people lined up when they opened their doors at 7 a.m.; a much smaller than normal number for the day after Christmas.
Shoppers we spoke with also noticed smaller crowds.
“I actually told my wife this morning, 'I am surprised there is not a lot of crowds out,'” said shopper Daniel Sekulic. “It seems a little quiet.”
“We were anticipating a lot more people, but like you said, Thanksgiving, during that time frame, has kind of changed the whole tradition of Christmas and after Christmas,” said shopper Gary Miller.
Most people we spoke with agree that with more and more stores opening on Thanksgiving, and companies trying to get the best deals out sooner than later, the day after Christmas is not the same.
“Some of the deals, no, because most of them now are 30 percent, so before Christmas they were as much as 70 percent off in a lot of the stores,” said Miller.
Even though the crowds are not as big, and the excitement is not as high, the shoppers we spoke with said it still does not mean you cannot find a good deal.
“We came out to shop for hats and gloves,” said shopper Amber Sekulic, “Good deals on hats and gloves, definitely, $3.”
“That is one of our traditions,” said Miller. “We are about to go to Iowa to visit our grandkids, so this is one way we can get a few more extra gifts for them.”
