Qantas Airways will be making the longest flight in the world seven days a week beginning in April 2016.
The Australia-based airline said Wednesday they will increase their service between Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Sydney Airport to seven flights a week -- up one from the current six.
Qantas currently makes the longest scheduled passenger flight in the world, Dallas to Sydney, in about 16 hours, on their Airbus A380 aircraft. The airline began nonstop service to D/FW in 2011 using Boeing 747 aircraft, but began making the flights with the A380 last fall.
Qantas said with the additional flight they'll now be able to ferry more than 3,300 passengers weekly between Dallas-Fort Worth and Sydney.
"We are delighted that Qantas is adding a seventh weekly frequency to their popular DFW to Sydney service," said John Ackerman, Executive Vice President for Global Strategy and Development at D/FW Airport. "The Qantas A380 service going daily a testament to the strength of the DFW market, and it is vitally important to business and leisure customers because it offers them more choices and additional convenience."
Qantas is a key member of the oneworld® alliance in partnership with American Airlines and 13 other carriers. Additionally, Qantas and American Airlines are joint-venture partners on trans-Pacific routes to Australia and New Zealand.
