Lewisville Breaks Ground on Old Town Plaza

Construction is underway at Lewisville’s new Old Town Park Plaza.

Crews started working on the 1.5-acre park and gathering space this week right across the street from City Hall and the Lewisville Grand Theater.

City leaders say the design for the park centers around water and will use a linear water-way to link park features together. It will also be used as a back-drop behind the park’s amphitheater-style stage and a main-event at the park’s “sprayground” they’re installing for the kids.

The park was designed by architecture firm Design Workshop which has offices in Austin. The group has designed similar projects elsewhere in Texas and Colorado.

The city plans to use the new space for many of their outdoor festivals and community events like the “Sounds of Lewisville” concert series and the “Western Days” festival in September.

The park will also be located directly next to Lewisville’s Old Town shopping and restaurant district on Main Street.

The project is expected to take about 10 months with a completion date of April 2014. The project will cost about $5.2 million.
