JCPenney Cuts 300 Jobs at Plano Headquarters

Plano-based JCPenney says Thursday they've eliminated 300 positions at their home office as they work to reach financial targets.

In a statement released to NBC 5, JCPenney said the company "has been evaluating its home office structure to indentify opportunities for greater simplification and higher productivity.  As a result, the company has made the difficult decision to eliminate approximately 300 home office positions."

JCPenney added that as they continue to implement new processes and efficiecies, it's imperative to keep a thoughtful approach on managing expenses.

In September, the retailer said they planned to hire about 650 seasonal workers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for the holiday shopping season.

Earlier this year, NBC News reported JCPenney planned to close 40 stores in 2015 -- affecting approximately 2,250 employees.
