Gas Slips Below $2 Per Gallon in Texas

Retail gasoline prices across Texas have slipped below the $2 per gallon mark during the last full week of summer.

AAA Texas on Thursday reported the average price at the pump statewide was down 3 cents to settle at $1.97 per gallon. Nationwide gasoline prices held steady at $2.18 per gallon.

The association survey found Corpus Christi has the cheapest gasoline statewide at an average $1.92 per gallon. Drivers in El Paso have the most expensive gasoline in Texas at an average $2.03 per gallon.

AAA experts say the national average price for unleaded gasoline is expected to move lower heading into fall.

Retail gasoline prices typically decline due to lower demand after the busy summer driving season. Refineries are also changing from summer-blend fuel to a cheaper-to-produce winter-blend gasoline.
