Union employees at a North Texas company were sent home Friday, and temporary workers are being hired while the union negotiates a new contract.

Lear Corp., which makes seats for the sport utility vehicles made at General Motors' Arlington assembly plant, told its employees to wait for a call to come back to work, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

Workers told the newspaper that the company is hiring temporary employees to work while a new contract is being negotiated.

But the union says its contract should prevent management from locking out union workers.

The Star-Telegram said its calls to Lear officials were not returned.

Lear filed for bankruptcy protection Tuesday.
