Denton County Tops Job Market List

Nationwide survey puts Denton, Collin counties at top of job market list

Two North Texas areas have been ranked in the top 10 job markets in the nation.

A study by CNN Money puts Denton and Collin counties at the top of the list for job opportunities.

Mikkael Rodriguez, the owner of Top That Pizza, which opened in Denton a week ago, said the decision to open the franchise in Denton was all about location.

According to the CNN Money survey, his location is prime. Denton County was deemed the seventh best job market in the nation.

"It seems like in Lewisville, Denton, these companies are starting to boom. A lot of companies are seeing that there is a good workforce out here," Rodriguez said.

The survey looked a decade of growth and ranked the counties based on job availability and quality of life.

"I think a lot of it has to do with the growth of Dallas-Fort Worth as a regional area and the lack of room for growth pushes businesses North," said Dan Naegeli, University of North Texas director of career and leadership development.

Naegeli said Denton County's location, along with a lower cost of living and numerous universities, make it attractive to employers and employees.

"I've been here almost a decade now, so I've seen growth almost every year since I've come to the campus," he said.
