American's Flier Program to Merge With US Airways in 30 Days

American Airlines says it will combine its frequent-flier program with that of US Airways within the next 30 days.

That means the end of US Airways' Dividend Miles program, a casualty of the 2013 merger of the two airlines.

American Airlines Group Inc. notified customers by email Friday that it will soon begin transferring US Airways miles and elite-status-qualifying activity to American's AAdvantage program.

AAdvantage is still based on miles flown plus credit-card and other purchases from partner companies. So far, American has resisted the trend among other airlines to award free flights based on money spent with the airline instead of miles flown. American hasn't ruled out such a change.
