Albertson's to Acquire United Supermarkets

Albertson's LLC has announced plans to acquire Texas-based United Supermarkets, LLC.

No purchase price was included in Monday's announcement.

United is a family-owned retail grocery chain based in Lubbock and operating since 1916. The company has 50 stores in Texas under the brands United Supermarkets, Market Street and Amigos. The company's United Express brand has seven convenience stores and 26 fuel centers.

United will operate as a new business unit under Albertson's. A statement says CEO Robert Taylor will continue to lead United in his new capacity of president, reporting directly to Bob Miller, CEO of Idaho-based Albertson's.

Albertson's operates 76 stores in Texas, mainly in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and nationwide has more than 600 stores.
