White Powder Letters Reported at Lew Sterrett

Packages found pose no threat, officials say

The all-clear has been given after Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a call of white powder envelopes at the Lew Sterrett Justice Center Wednesday morning.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Department said the powder was found inside the 203rd Court at the Frank Crowley Courts Building -- one of the buildings in the Lew Sterrett complex.

The courtroom was evacuated while the package was analyzed.  The contents were determined to pose no threat and the all clear was given.

Letters containing powder invoke fear after five people were killed and more than a dozen were injured when letters laced with anthrax spores were mailed to offices in the days and weeks after Sept. 11, 2001.

Since then, hundreds of hoax letters have been received nationwide at schools, banks, hospitals and other businesses. Though they've been harmless, anyone receiving a white powder letter is advised to evacuate the area and call 911.
