Security Heightened at Weatherford College After Threat

Weatherford College's Mineral Wells campus is under heightened security after an unspecified threat was made by a member of the National Guard, officials say.

Weatherford College Police Chief Paul Stone is on site as a precaution while the National Guard investigates a tip they received from third party about the threat.

Security at the Mineral Wells campus was elevated at 1:20 p.m., as a precaution and that anyone entering or leaving the campus will be required to show ID.

The college's other three campuses are not affected.

At about 1:40 p.m., the school placed the following message on their website:

"Out of an over-abundance of caution, the Weatherford College Police Department has locked exterior doors and added extra security to the Education Center at Mineral Wells this afternoon. This is in response to an unspecified threat in the general Fort Wolters area. This is not considered a “lock-down” per se but only a precautionary measure. Students and personnel are able to leave the campus as desired.

College officials have stated there is no overt threat to WC students, faculty or staff at the ECMW."
