Carrollton Lock Downs Lifted

Four school campuses in Carrollton were placed on lock down while police search for a suspected burglar Friday, police say.

According to Carrollton police, officers were searching for an man who kicked in a fence at a home along the 1900 block of Lawndale Drive.

The homeowner was home at the time and said the man may have been armed.  For a short time, several streets in the area were blocked off while a helicopter from the Texas Department of Public Safety assisted in the search.

As a precaution, the campuses of R.L. Turner High School, McLaughlin-Strickland Elementary, Central Elementary and Perry Middle School were placed on lock down.

Though the schools do not begin fall classes until Aug. 26, there may have been students or faculty at the campus for extracurricular activities or for other obligations.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m., the lock downs were lifted.
