Memorial Held for Sniper Chris Kyle

Monday Memorial Service: Cowboys Stadium

The two-hour memorial service for slain ex-Navy SEAL Chris Kyle ended Monday afternoon with bagpipers playing a recessional as Kyle's flag-draped coffin was carried out of Cowboys Stadium.

Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield were shot and killed last weekend at a gun range in Erath County.

Kyle's widow, Taya Kyle, told mourners that he'll always be with her.  His friends and military service members said he was a dedicated family man known for his sense of humor, compassion, selflessness and generosity.

Country music star Randy Travis has performed at the memorial service for slain ex-Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle.

Travis told the thousands gathered at Cowboys Stadium on Monday that he was glad to be there, adding that he never met Kyle, but wished he had.

Travis then began playing his guitar and singing "Whisper My Name," which he said Kyle's wife had told him was a meaningful song for the couple. Travis also sang "Amazing Grace."

Those in attendance also received a program with special letters from Kyle's children.

Tuesday Procession: Midlothian to Austin

Police have released details about Tuesday's 200-mile procession planned for Kyle.

In a news release Saturday, Midlothian Police Chief Carl Smith said the procession for Chris Kyle will begin at about 8 a.m. Tuesday at the Midlothian ISD's multi-purpose stadium at 1800 South 14th Street.

It will end at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin. The procession will take U.S. 287 to Interstate 35E.

Morning commuters should anticipate early delays on U.S. 287 between Highway 67 and I-35E. Authorities estimate the procession will travel at a speed of around 50 to 55 miles per hour.

Police say military personnel, first responders and the Patriot Guard will escort the procession.

Dan Mathys is one of the more than 200-plus Patriot Guard Riders invited by Kyle's family to take part in the memorial.

"Chris Kyle's mission is the biggest mission we've ever done," Mathys said. "We've done big missions in the past. We hear riders are coming in from all over the country. Florida, Montana, let alone the military and the public being invited to this memorial service is something we've never seen before."

Kyle completed four tours of duty in Iraq and wrote the best-selling book "American Sniper."
