Frisco police are investigating the death of a 10-year-old boy found dead at his home Wednesday evening.

The boy's body was found inside a home on the 15400 block of Mountain View Drive when police were called to perform a welfare check.  At about 6:30 p.m., after first speaking with the boy's parents, officers found the child's body inside the home.

Investigators have not publicly confirmed the circumstances of how the boy died, but police sources told NBC 5 that it is believed the child was drowned, possibly in a bathtub, inside the home.

The boy's death is being investigated as a homicide.

The child's mother, 38-year-old Pallavi Dhawan, was taken into custody by police, though no charges have been filed, according to the police department.  She remains in custody for questioning Thursday.

Meanwhile, Thursday morning, the family's home is still considered an active crime scene by police.

Steve Buckley, who lives next door to the family, said he didn't know his neighbors but was still shocked that such a thing has taken place in his neighborhood.

"One day they were here.  We never even saw a moving truck move-in ... all of a sudden they were here. Normally when you move, then you say hi, introduce yourself, these people, I never saw them," said Buckley.  "It's very unsettling, especially being next door.  This is a very quiet neighborhood normally and, like I said, no one knew the people. Very strange no one knew the people."

Frisco ISD said the victim was in the fifth grade at Isbell Elementary School. The district said additional counselors will be at the school on Thursday and Friday as needed.  A letter about the death has already been released to parents to notify them about the death.
