According to Lonny Haschel with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the driver of a tractor-trailer veered off the road and overcorrected when trying to get back on the roadway. When he overcorrected, the driver ended up in the other lane and collided with another tractor-trailer head-on.

One of the tractors jackknifed and struck a tree, the other remained in the roadway, caught fire and was consumed by flames. The fire spread to the grass and damaged the second tractor before being put out by local firefighters.

Two tractor-trailers collided in Justin, causing a fuel spill and fire Monday morning, Sept. 14, 2015.

Both drivers suffered serious injuries, Haschel said. The driver who was hit was transported to Denton Regional Medical Center while the driver who lost control of his truck was flown by CareFlite to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

Their current conditions are not known.

The road was back open by about 4:30 p.m. after crews worked to clean up the crash site, including fuel spilled by the trucks.
