Construction Worker Dies After Falling into Elevator Shaft at D/FW Airport

A construction worker has died after falling down an elevator shaft at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport Wednesday.

According to airport spokesman David Magana, the incident occurred at Terminal A near Gate A39 sometime after 1 p.m.

The area where the worker — later identified as 55-year-old Craig Rowell — fell is currently walled off for construction. It is not clear how far he fell or what led to the fall.

Rowell was flown by medical helicopter to John Peter Smith Hospital where he was pronounced deceased just after midnight Thursday.

No other details have been released.
