Child Fatally Struck by Pickup Truck in Hunt County

Boy hit after running into street after his dog

An 8-year-old boy was struck and killed by a pickup truck Monday evening in Hunt County, the sheriff said.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said a passing Ford F-250 struck Brandon Ivy when he ran into the street to catch his dog at about 5:15 p.m.

Ivy was hit in front of a home south of Caddo Mills on Farm-to-Market Road 36, just north of Interstate 30.

The driver stopped after the crash and is cooperating with investigators. The Department of Public Safety said it is too early to tell if the driver will be charged.

On Tuesday night, friends of the boy will remember him at a vigil in the parking lot of the State National Bank in downtown Caddo Mills.  The memorial begins at 6:45 p.m.
