Four schools in the Carroll Independent School District in Southlake were placed on lock down for about an hour Wednesday after a bank robbery in the area.
According to the district, the schools were locked down as a precaution while police searched the area for the person who robbed the Compass Bank on 2650 E. Southlake Boulevard.
The man has been described as white or Hispanic, about 6 feet 2 inches tall and wearing a dark-colored baseball cap, a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, light-colored jeans, tan work boots and a khaki jacket with a plaid liner.
NBC 5 has learned two of the bank employees were tied up with duct tape by the man who was also wearing a surgical mask. When they managed to free themselves, the man ran away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police said when the man got outside, he picked up a weedeater and ran to a nearby parking lot where he got into a silver car and drove away.
While officers searched the nearby area for the man, they locked down the following four schools as a precaution: Dawson Middle School, Eubanks Intermediate School, Old Union Elementary School and Rockenbaugh Elementary School.
Shortly before 1:30 p.m., officials tweeted that the bank robber was believed to have left the area and the schools were given the all clear.
