It's back to work for heartsick Gov. Mark Sanford after a long and likely awkward weekend with his in-laws.

After spending July 4 with his wife and kids in her home state of Florida, he's back in the office, scheduled for a day of security briefings.

He meets Monday with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Sen. Lindsey Graham to discuss protecting the country's ports, according to The Associated Press. At another meeting he'll be briefed on port security in North Charleston. As for the reporters meetings that follow? He'll skip those.

The governor has had his fill of media attention since announcing the details of his steamy affair with his Latin love, who he called his "soul mate." Sanford said he's through with Belen Chapur and he's trying to fall back in love with his wife.

Longtime friend and confidant state Sen. Tom Davis, who called for Sanford's resignation, but later backed off after confirming that the governor didn't break any laws, said it's time for everyone to get back to work.

"I think it's time for me and other public officials to get back to work on the serious challenges facing our state," barring the announcement of any new information, the senator wrote in a statement.

South Carolina Republicans are doing just that.

The State Republican party executive committee are scheduled to meet Monday to determine how they'll deal with Sanford. They could decide to call for his resignation according to South Carolina newspaper The State.
