Male penguins Harry and Pepper incubated and hatched an egg laid by a third bird last year. But when Linda, a penguin widow, started courting Harry he fell head over flippers for the bird. The two have now begun nesting together.
     
  • Profanity helps ease pain, a new study shows. Launching into a f-word-laced tirade can lessen the feeling of physical pain, research found. Participants in the study who swore were able to withstand pain for longer periods of time than when they used G-rated terms to express frustration. The findings suggest that swearing may have evolved as way to express aggression and reduce pain levels.

  • Most modern-day cell phones can trasmit location but not all emergency call centers are equipped to handle the information. Aging 911 centers that lack the pinpoint technology are unable to locate callers who aren't sure of their location or are too distressed to signal their whereabouts. The findings are disturbing as more and more families are dropping land lines in favor of cell phones.
