Mrs. Bush to Write Her Life Story

Laura Bush has signed with Scribner, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, to write her memoirs for publication in the spring of 2010.
The first lady plans to write about her experiences in the White House and Texas governor’s mansion, and to touch on universally relevant themes like having a strong-willed mother-in-law, dealing with loss and raising children.
More specifically, she plans to describe what it’s like to have issues you’re passionate about described in the press as “pet projects,” what’s it’s like for your husband to be criticized, getting over the reluctance to speak publicly, and dealing with the world’s biggest spotlight.
The first lady will have a collaborator, to be chosen later. Terms of the contract, negotiated by Washington superlawyer Robert Barnett, were not disclosed.
The book, which doesn’t have a title yet, will also be available as an audiobook from Simon & Schuster Audio.
The first lady said in the announcement: “I am very pleased to be associated with Scribner, the distinguished publishing house of many of my favorite books. I look forward to working with Scribner and the Simon & Schuster team as I tell the stories of the extraordinary events and people I've met in my life, particularly during my years in the White House.”
Susan Moldow, Executive Vice President and Publisher of Scribner, said in a statement: “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to publish Mrs. Bush’s memoir. As a rare witness to the private moments of one of our country’s most consequential presidencies, and as a First Lady who has maintained a notable level of discretion, her memoir will provide a candid and personal perspective, and an enduring record, of the years that have already determined the course of the 21st century.”
Nan Graham, Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of Scribner, will edit the memoir.
