Boehner Wants No More Economic Viagra

Administer no more than one fiscal stimulus every 4 to 6 months.

You can always depend on Warren Buffett for a good quote, whether it's calling financial derivatives "weapons of mass destruction" or explaining that "we simply attempt to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy only when others are fearful." His newest bit of wisdom, unleashed this morning in an interview with "Good Morning America," is downright sassy and very au courant:

"Our first stimulus bill ... was sort of like taking half a tablet of Viagra and having also a bunch of candy mixed in ... as if everybody was putting in enough for their own constituents," he said. "It doesn't have really quite the wall that might have been anticipated there."

Hmm, well ... half a tablet of Viagra and a bunch of candy sounds pretty good, actually! What's Warren Buffett got against candy, anyhow?

He seems to want America to eat its vegetables now, by cooking up a second stimulus package that's nothing but brown rice and broccoli. No big delicious Wall Street goodies, just roughage and gloom.

Even though nobody in Congress has proposed a second stimulus package yet, folks are already talking about what a terrible failure the first one was, so why would you want a second one anyway? House Minority Leader John Boehner cannot see the point.

“All of this talk of a second stimulus bill, I think, is an admission on the part of the administration that their stimulus plan is not working,” Boehner said.

Fair enough! We do have terrible unemployment figures, after all. But the question is why. Do we need the other half of the Viagra? And, if so, will it cost another trillion dollars?
