Mike Modano is out indefinitely after the Dallas Stars center underwent surgery to remove his appendix on Monday.

Modano has appeared in 54 of the Stars' 68 games this season, scoring 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points.

He is expected to be out of action for a few weeks.

The 39-year-old Modano, who holds the NHL career scoring record for U.S.-born players.

With just 14 games left in the season the Stars are on the outside looking in for a playoff spot.
