A Gallon of Gas for $1.99

Good news gas prices are dropping across North Texas.

Gas prices are falling across North Texas.

At the intersection of Interstate 35E and Swisher Road in Lake Dallas, a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is now $1.99 at the new QuikTrip and its next-door neighbor, Circle K.

The average price statewide for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.39, according to AAA Texas.

“I saw the line and figured why not stop and fill up,” driver Greg Scorza said, as he waited in the parking lot of QuikTrip. While some drivers like Scorza stumbled upon it, others are closely following this fierce fuel face off. “It started at $2.03 last week and it’s gone down to $1.99,” Lake Dallas resident, Brenda Valdez said.

QuikTrip is the new kid on the block. It opened last Thursday and ever since, customers say, prices at neighboring Circle K have been plummeting. “I think it is good, good for the neighborhood and good for the economy,” Eric Calloway said.

Just across the highway, two other stations sell gas for about a dime more per gallon and their business is less brisk.
“Everybody is coming on this side of the freeway,” Valdez said. “It’s just packed,” driver April Frank said, “everyone is coming here!”

At the QuikTrip Friday afternoon, drivers were waiting an average of five minutes to fill up, but most considered it well worth it.
