Cowboys Target Defense with Flurry of Late Picks

The Dallas Cowboys have taken defensive players with all five of their picks in the final round of the NFL draft.

Dallas started its seventh-round flurry Saturday by getting Stanford defensive end Ben Gardner at No. 231 overall followed by Texas Tech linebacker Will Smith seven picks later.

The Cowboys, who finished last in the NFL in total defense last year, grabbed Baylor safety Ahmad Dixon with the 248th pick. Northern Illinois defensive tackle Ken Bishop went three picks later, and Oregon cornerback Terrance Mitchell another three picks after that.

Dallas took Iowa linebacker Anthony Hitchens at No. 119 overall in the fourth round, then moved up 12 spots for Pittsburgh receiver Devin Street at 158th overall in the fifth round.
