The grand opening isn't until Friday but some businesses along Fort Worth's new Sundance Square Plaza are already opening.

Sundance Square Plaza in downtown Fort Worth remains on track to open Friday.

"I think it's just a culmination of a dream and a hope that, when Sundance started what, nearly 20 years ago, the original plan was to have a plaza, European-style piazza, and now we're getting there," Mayor Betsy Price said.

There's still a lot of work to be finished before Friday, and as many as 500 workers remain on site at any one time.

Right now, crews are trying to beat Wednesday's rain, knowing they'll lose some time because of the weather.

"Mostly what needs to be done is cleaning, so possibly the rain might just help us wash everything off," Sundance Square spokeswoman Tracy Gilmour said

Del Frisco's Grille became the first business along the new square to open when it started serving dinner at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

"The plazas going to be absolutely stunning," said Kenneth Davis, the restaurant's general manager. "It's truly going to be an epicenter for the city. I think it's going to be a great asset to the city, attract a lot of folks downtown."

RadioShack's new concept store in the Commerce Building along the plaza opens Wednesday morning, and most of the other businesses will be open in time for holiday shopping.

The plaza also will feature the Fort Worth Christmas Tree.

"We've got private dining rooms that look straight down into the plaza that are going to have stunning views especially during the holidays when it's all lit up, it's going to be incredible," Davis said.
