Pizza in a Glass (Plus Vodka, Too)

Ever sipped on a slice? Trattoria Neapolis marries pizzas and martinis.

Perhaps you've heard of the concept of "pizza" before. Round, doughy bottom, then sauce, then melty cheese, and some toppings? Good, good.

And perhaps you're familiar with adult libations, those pow-packing drinks that go rather well with a saucy, cheesy, doughy Italian classic. Yes? Grown-up beverages are something you've heard of? Excellent.

While both of those things are known far and wide, they have typically remained distinct from each other. One is on a plate, one is a glass, and never the pizza-and-cocktail shall meet.

There is a notable and recent exception, however: Trattoria Neapolis. The Pasadena restaurant, which has become rather well-known in the offbeat libation department -- remember the $55 bottle of beer? -- is currently serving a Pizza Cocktail in honor of Pizza Month.

Which, of course, you know is October. It's written in big red letters on your kitchen calendar, we hope.

The Pizza Cocktail is not just any pizza, though: It's a Neapolitan Pizza in a glass. The ingredients: housemade basil-infused and ghost pepper vodkas, tomato water *and* juice, garlic, basil, porcini powder, and a foam top created from mozzarella and parmigiano.

Please. Mozzarella foam. We want an aerosol can of that in our refrigerator door pronto.

But this tasty and hearty concoction -- thanks, tomato juice, for the hearty part -- is only available at the South Lake Avenue eatery through October. Chop chop, as they say, or slice slice, if you prefer.
