Fly Fishing 101
Weekends, April 20-June 9
Fly fishing, that iconic American sport celebrated in both literature and film, is the perfect spring pastime and fun for the whole family. However, it's also downright hard to master. Luckily, the experts over at outdoor outfitters Orvis are here to help. Every Saturday and Sunday through June 9 at their Company Store the staff will lead classes through basic techniques like fly casting and outfit rigging. Rites of Spring
Every spring, The Dutch Art Gallery hosts their annual Rites of Spring juried art show. This year saw 41 artists produce 50 pieces across different genres, with two New York art critics selecting the top three paintings. First place went to Judy Crowe, a Houston-based painter. But just because the competition is over doesn't mean you can't peruse the exhibit, absolutely free of charge. All work will be on display--and available for purchase--through May 11. Click here for more information.

Target First Saturdays at the Nasher Sculpture Center

Want to introduce your littles ones to the arts but don't know how to keep it entertaining? Head to the Nasher Sculpture Center every first Saturday of the month this spring for a full day of free education geared toward kids. Morning activities begin at 10 a.m. and include sculpture demos and art scavenger hunts, followed by yoga and family tours. Afternoons are decidedly more low-key, with readings, performances and snacks available at the cafe. Click here for more information.
