With record-breaking attendance numbers in 2011, organizers of Frisco’s Christmas in the Square are hoping for bigger success in 2012.
"Last year was a record," said Jim Leslie with Frisco Square. "This year I think we’ll do even better."
Last year brought more than 655,000 people to the area near Frisco's city hall and because Thanksgiving hits earlier in November, there will be an extra week for revelers to admire the show.
"We're trying to create a family tradition for folks to get out and see lights," Leslie said.
It takes weeks of preparation to set up the 175,000 lights, 11 and a half miles of wiring and eight miles of extension cords.
It's all tied into a computerized system and plays to music.
For new businesses on the square like Rod Schaefer's Pizzeria Testa, which opened just about a month ago, the holiday season is a recipe for success.

"When you bring in 600-some-thousand people, we can only benefit from that," he said.
Leslie added the square has recently seen an increase in leases signed.
The show starts the Friday after Thanksgiving and runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. each night.
