Belk Flagship Store to Move Into Galleria Dallas

Galleria Dallas is losing Saks Fifth Avenue in June but gaining a Belk flagship store in the spring of 2014.

Belk and Galleria Dallas plan to jointly invest $20 million into construction improvements to the building, according to a press release from Galleria Dallas.

Architectural plans are in the works and construction on the 170,000 square foot space, currently occupied by Saks Fifth Avenue, is expected to begin in July

The Galleria Dallas flagship store will feature upscale, premium brands that are unique to the area.

"Our merchants made their first buying trip to the Dallas market last year," said Belk President & Chief Merchandising Officer Kathryn Bufano. "We were impressed with the vibrancy of the city, and the modern Texas style we saw. At Belk we understand local and regional markets, and we know how to translate the trends to our individual markets."

Other Belk flagship locations include Raleigh, Charlotte and Atlanta.

Belk already has 13 smaller-format stores in Texas and has plans for more growth in the area.

Saks Fifth Avenue will close its doors at Galleria Dallas on June 15.
