"American Idol" alum Adam Lambert confessed he got carried away with his kinky performance during the American Music Awards -- but stopped short of apologizing.

"I'm a performer, not a baby-sitter," Lambert told CBS' "The Early Show." "I admit I did get carried away, but I don't see anything wrong with it. I do see how people got offended and that was not my intention.

"My intention was to interpret the lyrics of my song and have a good time with it."

The glam rocker was booted from his scheduled appearance on ABC's G-rated "Good Morning America" for fear he would repeat the sexed-up stage act he gave during the American Music Awards in which he engaged in a same-sex lip lock, simulated oral sex and groping.

Lambert -- whom CBS immediately scheduled for "The Early Show" and "The Late Show with David Letterman" after ABC pulled the plug on his performance-- said the kinky act that drew more than 1,500 complaints left viewers so steamed because he is gay.

"I think it's because I'm a gay male," Lambert told the morning show before giving a tame-by-comparison performance.  "If it had been a female performer doing those things up on the stage I don't think there would be nearly as much outrage."

The 27-year-old singer came out in a Rolling Stone interview earlier this year.

"It is disappointing that 'Good Morning America' did not give Adam Lambert the opportunity to tailor his performance to their audience," Jarrett Barrios, president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, told the New York Post.

"'Good Morning America' confirmed that sexual orientation did not play a role in this decision. GLAAD advocated that 'Good Morning America' work with and host Adam Lambert and continue to host openly gay and lesbian performers and guests in the future."
