Jon Cancels TV Response to Kate's Weepy “Today” Appearance

Jon cancels official interview plans, but reported ex-lover spills

Jon Gosselin is taking the high road -- for now -- on a day when his estranged wife Kate broke her silence about their split and his other ex Kate accused him of two-timing.

"I do feel a lot of failure," she said. "This is not what any mother sets out for her children. This does not feel like the best for them. It's necessary and it has to take place."

Appearing on NBC's "Today" show wearing her wedding band Monday morning, the reality show mom said it was very upsetting that Jon had been linked to a number of other women including the daughter of her tummy tuck surgeon in the weeks since they announced they were filing for divorce in June.

"It is hurtful," she said, "and to be very honest is the most hurtful part is when his decisions directly affect the children."

At one point during the interview, a bleary-eyed Kate was handed a tissue as she spoke of the difficult weeks since filing for divorce and said she was stunned by Jon's flings.

"I was shocked. But, to be honest, that's his life," she said.

She refuted claims that she had been the one to end the 10-year marriage between them and said she still wears her wedding ring because of her children.

"I think it's very clear that we're two different people at the point with two different sets of goals," she said, "and I'm wearing the ring because it's been there for 10 years and just because the kids still see it."

"I don't want to upset them," she said, adding the kids "know that it's my 'married to Daddy' ring."

The star of TLC's "Jon & Kate Plus 8" has kept mum until now on her very public breakup but said in divorce papers filed in June that her 10-year marriage to Jon was "irretrievably broken."

Kate put to rest some rumors that have been percolating in the tabloids -- denying she had a relationship with her body guard.

"There is no affair there never has been an affair," she said of her security guard.

She also said reports of her purchasing a condo in Rockville, Maryland, were false -- rumors that were sparked when she was spotted having a meal with her bodyguard's wife at a restaurant below a series of apartments. She refused to disclose where she lives when Jon spends time with the kids at their Pennsylvania estate.

"I'm in hiding," she said.

The mother of eight said the pressure of being in the spotlight was difficult but that her split from Jon would have happened regardless.

"It would have happened anyway -- cameras on, cameras off," she said.

Jon Gosselin today canceled plans to sit down with E! News with his reaction to Kate's revelations, Us magazine reported. No explanation was given for his cancellation.

He did make a brief statement to E!, saying he was glad Kate Major was "out of his life" - and that he hopes his soon-to-be ex-wife is moving on with her life.

"She's the mother of my children," he said of Kate Gosselin. "I only wish her the best."

The 32-year-old father of eight was first linked to Hailey Glassman, the 22-year-old daughter of Kate's tummy tuck surgeon. He then was connected to a Star magazine reporter who had to resign from her job because of the conflict of interest.

"At this point ... I'm single, per se," he told People magazine in July. "I'm just a regular guy who just wants to have friendship and good times. And I like meeting people."

Major spoke to E! News about her relationship with Jon, saying she and the Gosselin dad planned to run away together - and that his feelings for Glassman weren't real.

"He tried to two-time both of us," Major said. "He wasn't honest with Hailey. He needs to man up and tell the truth. I'm not going to be the other woman," she said.

The reporter spilled that she and Jon had plans to "travel together" and that she had proof of their romance, despite his claims that he and Major were strictly platonic.
