Charlie Sheen Inches Ever Closer to TV Comeback

A made-for-TV version of the Jack Nicholson/Adam Sandler movie "Anger Management" starring Charlie Sheen appears more and more likely to be a reality - assuming a network takes the bait, that is.

Sheen is partnering with producer Joe Roth, who has worked with Sheen on five feature films including "Major League," "Young Guns," and "The Three Musketeers," to develop the sitcom with Lionsgate Television.

Sheen touted his return a few weeks ago, but at that time Lionsgate had no comment on any development deals. Now, Lionsgate Television Group President Kevin Beggs has released a statement confirming "Anger Management" is in the pipeline.

"We always look for series ideas that are noisy, accessible and relevant,” said Beggs. “Charlie Sheen in 'Anger Management' takes those criteria to a whole new level and we are thrilled to be in business with him, Evolution, Debmar-Mercury and Revolution Studios on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  With a star of Charlie's magnitude, a producer as venerable as Joe Roth and a branded property as compelling as Anger Management, this show has unique upside while still adhering to our disciplined business model.”

In the film "Anger Management," a mild-mannered guy is ordered to attend the titular program only to find that it is run by a dangerously unstable man.

“I chose 'Anger Management' because, while it might be a big stretch for me to play a guy with serious anger management issues, I think it is a great concept,” joked Sheen.

Roth has said they are currently seeking a show runner to begin writing and directing the series. No network has signed on for the project, but it is believed Lionsgate will be shopping it to TBS.
