R&B Artist Mario Charged in Assault Incident

R&B singer Mario was charged with assaulting his mother at their home in Baltimore, The Associated Press reported.

Authorities early yesterday arrived to an apartment building in the Fells Point area where Shawnita Hardaway told them that her son, Mario Barrett, 24, has pushed her. A hole in the door of their apartment and broken glass were discovered by police.

Barrett was charged with second-degree assault, said the AP. He was let go on $50,000 bail.

According to charging documents, Hardaway said that her head still hurt after being pushed into a wall by Barrett from a previous incident on Monday and that she feared for her safety

William Murphy III, an attorney for the former Dancing with the Stars contestant, described what happened as “an unfortunate incident” between a son and a mother with drug problems. The singer had staged an intervention for Hardaway as part of a MTV special.
