Josh Duhamel Rallies Help for His Flood-Stricken Hometown

Duhamel's sister and her family live in the North Dakota town that was hit by massive floods.

Where's Optimus Prime when you need him? With no help from robots in disguise, "Transformers" actor Josh Duhamel is using his star power to aid his hometown of Minot, N.D., which is recovering from massive flooding.

Duhamel was named honorary chairman of a fund set up for recovery efforts in Minot, according to The Associated Press. The Minot Area Community Foundation, which established the fund, will help residents of the town rebuild their lives.

The river that flooded more than 4,000 homes and hundreds of businesses on Friday has begun a slow retreat, MSNBC reported Sunday. But officials warned that the area would still be dangerous until the highest water passes.

Duhamel is in Moscow to promote his summer blockbuster, "Transformers: Dark of the Moon." But his thoughts were with his hometown, where his sister and her family live, he told "Entertainment Tonight."

"I know that town inside and out," Duhamel said. "I grew up there and … my junior high, my favorite pizza place, the university I went to — it's all going to be under water. Not just a little bit — like under water, so it's major."

Duhamel, who is married to Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie, took to his Twitter account to rally support for Minot, encouraging donations to the town's chapter of the American Red Cross and tweeting directly to top stars.

"Would love if you would please RT: Help my hometown #Minot #MinotFlooding," Duhamel tweeted at Selena Gomez, Paris Hilton, Justin Bieber and 50 Cent. As of Sunday night, none of the stars had replied or re-tweeted Duhamel's message.
