Guillermo del Toro Set to Announce Next Film After Comic-Con

Guillermo del Toro, just weeks after announcing that he was dropping out as director of "The Hobbit," is getting ready to jump back into things with a slew of new projects.

“We’re gonna announce a few things at Comic-Con that are surprises,” the director said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “But I’m probably going to announce my next directing project right after Comic-Con. It’s a pretty big one.”

At Comic-Con, del Toro will unveil "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark," a new horror film starring Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce that he produced and co-wrote. There is speculation that the man behind "Pan's Labyrinth" and the "Hellboy" films could be doing a re-make of "Frankenstein."

Of his decision to back out of "The Hobbit," del Toro said that it was difficult to leave the project.

"
It’s the biggest heartbreak of my life professionally,” he said. ”But at the same time, I’m entirely at peace with it.”

Del Toro announced that he was backing out due to scheduling conflicts.
