Thomas Gibson, who played Special Agent Aaron Hotchner on the CBS program "Criminal Minds," has been handed his walking papers following an onset skirmish with one of the show's writers.
"Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from Criminal Minds. Creative details for how the character's exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date," producers ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios said in a statement according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Gibson, who's been a member the show's cast since the outset in 2005, was initially facing a two-episode suspension following the altercation with writer and co-executive producer Virgil Williams, where he allegedly kicked him in the leg.
"I love Criminal Minds and have put my heart and soul into it for the last 12 years," Gibson said in a statement on Friday. "I had hoped to see it through to the end, but that won't be possible now. I would just like to say thank you to the writers, producers, actors, our amazing crew, and, most importantly, the best fans that a show could ever hope to have."
The 54-year-old Gibson had previously starred in the sitcom "Dharma & Greg" and the hospital drama series "Chicago Hope."
Gibson's firing is the latest cast upheaval for the program. Last season was also the last for series regular Shemar Moore.
