‘The Voice' Takes a Psychedelic Trip in New Season 9 Promo

Rainbows and butterflies and unicorns, oh my!

"The Voice" gets a whole new look as season nine coaches take a psychedelic trip in the latest promo for the hit singing competion series, which returns with blind auditions September 21 on NBC.

In the promo clip released Tuesday, coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams don virtual reality headsets and go on a wild and colorful ride to a land where animation rules and anything is possible.

As Stefani, Williams and Shelton fly in on their big red chairs, scene-stealer Levine opts for a unicorn. In the pursuit of talent for the upcoming series, Stefani sprouts butterfly wings to get ahead of her fellow coaches. And just like on the actual show, the four stars can't help but indulge in some friendly arguing.

If the new promo isn't enough to whet your appetite for the new season, news that Missy Elliott is joining the "Voice" family as adviser to Team Pharrell will have you wishing it were Sept. 21 already.

As for the rest of season nine's guest advisers, Selena Gomez is set to mentor returning coach Stefani's team, Shelton has recruited fellow country crooner Brad Paisley and Levine has tasked John Fogerty with mentoring his contestants.

And if that's not enough star power for you, Rihanna is set to be the key adviser for all of the contestants, a role previously filled by Taylor Swift and Nate Reuss.

"The Voice" returns to NBC on Monday, Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. ET
