May Movie Guide: ‘Captain America,' ‘Neighbors 2' and ‘X-Men' Hit the Box Office

Blockbuster season is upon us! 

As spring winds down and summer slowly starts to heat up, studios get set to release their big budget crowd-pleasers for 2016. Lining up for a shot at ruling the box office once again are Captain America, the "Neighbors" gang, the denizens of Wonderland and those uncanny X-Men. 

New cinematic additions include Tilda Swinton as a recuperating rock icon, the re-teaming of Julia Roberts and George Clooney, supposed nice guys Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, and a flock of Angry Birds. 

"A Bigger Splash" (May 4)

Tilda Swinton stars as an international rock star recuperating from recent throat surgery while vacationing on a Sicilian island with her boyfriend (Matthias Schoenaerts). An unexpected visit from an ex-boyfriend (Ralph Fiennes) and his daughter (Dakota Johnson) throws the couple's plans of tranquil seclusion into chaos. "Captain America: Civil War" (May 6) 

The Stars and Stripes take the lead as Captain America returns for his third big screen outing featuring actor Chris Evans in the titular role. This time around he's joined by most of his Avengers clan – but just who is friend and who is foe in this Marvel multiverse mash-up remains to be seen. [[377614071,C]]

"Money Monster" (May 13)

"Ocean's Eleven" co-stars George Clooney and Julia Roberts re-team for director Jodie Foster's take on fan revenge. When a disgruntled investor (Jack O'Connell) loses money on a stock tip offered by a Wall Street guru turned TV host (Clooney), he takes the show's whole studio hostage on live television in this real-time thriller.  [[377615441,C]]

"High-Rise" (May 13)

"The Angry Birds Movie" (May 20)

Feathers will definitely fly as those frustrated birds from the hit video game launch themselves onto the big screen. Constantly enraged Red (voice of Jason Sudeikis) heads to anger management class where he meets fellow flightless oddballs Chuck (Josh Gad) and Bomb (Danny McBride). When mysterious green pigs descend on their island, it's up to this trio of misfits to discover just what is behind the sudden arrival in this 3D animated comedy. [[377615961,C]]

"Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising" (May 20)

Love thy neighbor, or not. Seth Rogen, Zac Efron and Rose Byrne are back in this follow up to 2014 comedy about real folk versus a really annoying frat house. The Radners (Rogen, Byrne) revisit their worst neighbor nightmare when the unruly sisters of Kappa Nu move in next door. In an effort to eject the rowdy crew, the Radners turn to former frat stud and one-time enemy Teddy Sanders (Efron) for help. It's suburban warfare at its best/worst in this comedy from director Nicholas Stoller ("Forgetting Sarah Marshall," "Get Him to the Greek"). "The Nice Guys" (May 20)

Nice may not the be the first word that comes to mind when viewing the actions of these two. Ryan Gosling plays a down-on-his-luck private eye who joins forces with hired muscle Russell Crowe to investigate the apparent suicide of a fading porn star in 1977 Los Angeles. [[377616751,C]]

"Alice Through the Looking Glass" (May 27)

The Wonderland crew is back for director Tim Burton's magical envisioning of Lewis Carroll's world down the rabbit hole. In this sequel to the 2010 hit, Mia Wasikowska returns to the role of Alice as she journeys back in time to Wonderland in order to rescue the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) from Time (Sacha Baron Cohen). Also featuring Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen and the voice talent of the late Alan Rickman as the Blue Caterpillar. [[377614591,C]]

"X-Men: Apocalypse" (May 27)

In their latest big screen adventure, Professor Xavier (James McAvoy) and his friendly mutants battle the forces of evil when the world's first mutant, Apocalypse (Oscar Issac), emerges with plans to rule the world.
