Jennifer Lopez Will Pay Tribute to Selena Quintanilla at Billboard Latin Music Awards

Jennifer Lopez originally paid tribute to the late Selena Quintanilla by portraying the famous singer in the biopic "Selena," and she will do so again on April 30 when she honors her at the Billboard Latin American Music Awards.

Telemundo first announced the tribute Thursday afternoon on "Al Rojo Vivo," but then confirmed the news on Twitter.

Lopez also released a statement after the news broke saying how excited she was to reprise what many people call her breakout role. "It's an honor, a great honor to be able to, 20 years after her death, to do a tribute for Selena," Lopez told "Al Rojo Vivo." "She continues to be someone that inspires. It's something that excites me very much. And I want to do something special, very special–just like she was–in this tribute."

The "On the Floor" singer previously talked about the fallen star in an interview with Billboard magazine. "There is never going to be another Selena," Lopez said of the Mexican-American entertainer. "And as far as music goes, that's what's beautiful about artistry...It's a special thing that Selena had. That's why we're still talking about her 20 years later."

She also touched upon why she believes fans are still so moved by Selena's music.

"The grace with which she handled the business, the grace with which she handled her life, the humor," J.Lo added. "Her spirit of loving what she did. Her sense of family. That's the tragedy of everything that happened and why she left such an imprint–because she was gone way too soon."

Quintanilla was murdered by the former president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldvar, at a Days Inn in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1995. She was 23 years old. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Grammy winner's death, so many have been honoring the talented star including Adrienne Bailon.

Performing "I Could Fall in Love" on her talk show, "The Real," Bailon channeled the Queen of Tejano in a sparkly silver crop top and long skirt. Afterwards, Bailon admitted that she hasn't "performed in six years," but felt incredibly special because she said Selena's music is the reason she entered the entertainment industry.

The Billboard Latin Music Awards will be broadcast live by Telemundo on April 30.
