David Hasselhoff Talks the Enduring Popularity of “Knight Rider,” Upcoming Memorabilia Auction

Come May, Michael Knight and his futuristic car KITT will speed back onto screens via Cozi TV.

And a real-life version of KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand) will be speeding into the driveway of one lucky bidder thanks to an auction of series star David Hasselhoff's personal memorabilia.

Fans of "Knight Rider" and Hasselhoff have the opportunity to bid on clothing and artifacts belonging to the actor/singer during the Hollywood Legends Auction set for Apr. 11-12 in Beverly Hills, Calif..

Eagle-eyed fans will note the car on the auction block is not the actual vehicle used on the series. The original KITT was a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am, while the automobile currently on sale was gifted to the actor by fans and is a modified 1986 Firebird. As of Wednesday, there were 10 bids and the highest was $30,00. The estimated price for the vehicle is $30,000-$50,000.

Other treasured pieces going under the hammer include a golf cart customized to look like KITT, a "Baywatch" pinball machine, a Harley Davidson motorcycle, and a 12-foot-long replica of the actor in "Baywatch" guise that was used as a prop in "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie." The full list of available items can be viewed at JuliensAuctions.com

Proceeds from many of the Hoff's items will benefit the Starlight Children's Foundation.

According to the star there is one article that won't be going up for sale: a leather jacket that "lights up!" Hasselhoff wore the garment New Year's Eve 1989 while performing atop the existing Berlin wall. "I'm going to be above a million people, so I want them to see me," he recalls of his decision to wear the treasured piece.

Chatting with Cozi TV ahead of "Knight Rider's" return, Hasselhoff describes the series - which was originally broadcast from 1982 to 1986 on NBC - as a show with "heart, humor and action" and reveals that when it comes to his professional life, acting alongside KITT was "the best four years of my life."

The 61-year-old actor goes on to admit how amazed he is by the longevity of fan support for the series. "I'm surprised by the adoration I get, mostly from men. Women followed 'Baywatch' believe it or not, and the men followed 'Knight Rider.'"

Hasselhoff adds he gets a kick out of how much international adoration still exists for the character Michael Knight, and also by the number of celebrities who fondly recall the show including Chris Rock and Shaquille O'Neal, among others.

But when asked what the one thing above all else he liked most about working on "Knight Rider," Hasselhoff cryptically answers: "Lunch!"

"Knight Rider" arrives on Cozi TV on May 26 (Memorial Day) and will air regularly after that on Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. ET.
