Sara Gilbert has officially come out as a lesbian after years of speculation.
The 35-year-old former "Roseanne" star confirmed the news Wednesday at a press conference for the Television Critics Association in Los Angeles.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gilbert said that she has been hesitant about sharing details about her personal life. But, for her latest venture as producer and co-host of CBS's new daytime show "The Talk," she's decided to be more open.
"I've been acting my whole life, and I've never really discussed my personal life." Gilbert told EW. "This is a talk show ... So obviously I'm going to be discussing my life more."
Gilbert has been linked to TV producer Allison Adler since 2002, and the pair have two children together. Adler gave birth to the couple's son, Levi, 5, and Gilbert is the birth mother of their daughter Sawyer, 2.
Last week, CBS issued a press release about Gilbert's upcoming daytime show "The Talk," featuring six celebrity moms. While the network referred to husbands of the rest of the show's hosts, it only mentioned Gilbert's children.
Gilbert said that the decision to keep Adler's name off the list "came from me."
"CBS would write whatever I wanted," she said.
When asked if she would be comfortable discussing her personal life as a lesbian on the show, Gilbert told EW, "this is a whole new world for me."
"I'm just sort of living my life," she added.
"The talk" is due to premiere in the fall and is aiming to draw in an audience similar to that of ABC's "The View."
Along with Gilbert, the show will also be hosted by Sharon Osbourne, Leah Remini of "The King of Queens," "21 Jump Street's" Holly Robinson, Marissa Jaret Winokur, the star of "Hairspray," and Julie Chen, host of "Big Brother" and "The Early Show."
