Troubled Hollywood progeny Redmond O'Neal is moving on up, from a drug rehab facility to a sober-living environment.
A judge gave the son of Ryan O'Neal and Farrah Fawcett good marks on his "excellent progress" in rehab, according to People magazine.He's been fighting his addiction at the Impact Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center in Pasadena.
"It's a big, big day for Redmond," his attorney, Richard Pintal, told the magazine. "Redmond has come so far. He's really feeling great."
The 25-year-old was also praised by L.A. Superior Court Judge Michael Tynan for the "positive" decisions he had made in the last few months. Tynan sent O'Neal to the intense residential rehab program back in January after he'd served a month in jail for violating his probation.
O'Neal originally went to prison following a 2008 drug arrest and a probation violation. He is scheduled for another progress report on June 22.
He was in custody when his mother died of cancer at age 62 last June 25, but was able to visit her on her deathbed. While there, Ryan O'Neal adminished his shackled son, saying "Don't rattle your chains."
Fawcett left her son $4.5 million, which was most of her estate. She left nothing to longtime love Ryan O'Neal. The grieving actor tried desperately to marry Fawcett as she lay dying, but no nuptials were exchanged. Then, at Fawcett's funeral, O'Neal drunkenly hit on his own daughter, Tatum O'Neal, he confessed to Vanity Fair.
