Steve Martin Guilty of Fake-Tweeting Ahead of Jury Duty

Most people dread doing jury duty, but Steve Martin may be looking forward to it a little too much.

The comedian tweeted out a series of jokes beginning with "REPORT FROM JURY DUTY," but, contrary to what some fans may have thought, he hasn't headed to the courtroom just yet, the New York Post reported.

"...guy I thought was up for murder turns out to be defense attorney. I bet he murdered someone anyway" and "Defendant's hair looking very Conan-y today. GUILTY" were a couple of musings Martin sent out to his 390,000+ followers.

The 65-year-old entertainer was just practicing material, according to press officials. An unnamed spokeswoman told Reuters that Martin was in an L.A. jury pool but had not yet been assigned to the case.

Martin's publicist, Alan Nierob, however, claimed that the funnyman was nowhere near the courtroom.

"He's not serving jury duty, just tweeting as usual," Neirob told the Post. "It's really great material, don't you think?"

Martin stopped joking around for a moment and clarified things in a tweet yesterday, admitting he will be doing his part as a good citizen, after all.

"Serious note: I actually be on jury duty soon," he tweeted. "I urge every citizen to experience it. I've never not been moved by the system."

Jury duty is never a picnic, but if Steve Martin were on the panel, it'd probably be a lot more fun!
