Tila Tequila: “I Am Allergic to Alcohol”

Tequila says she doesn't drink tequila

Reality TV vixen Tila Tequila said she takes shots of love -- not of alcohol.

The curvy star of MTV's "A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila" took to Twitter to deny she was drunk over the weekend when she accused San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman of choking her.

“I am allergic to alcohol,” Nguyen, who goes by Tila Tequila, tweeted on Monday. “It has been publicly known for years. That is how I got the name Tila 'Tequila' cuz of the irony."

"I can't drink.”

Merriman, who spent 2-1/2 hours in jail after the spat, said he was not trying to harm the reality show vixen outside his Poway, Calif., home early Sunday morning after she told cops he had choked her and thrown her to the ground -- he was simply concerned about the starlet because she appeared drunk.

“I was trying to help her, not hurt her,” Merriman told the San Diego Union Tribune. “I'm still glad I did what I did.”

"I think when it all surfaces, it will be a different situation. Period," Merriman said.

The three-time Pro Bowler was taken to jail after Nguyen signed a citizen's arrest warrant charging him with battery and false imprisonment. He later posted bail and was released without charge, cops said.

Nguyen asked to be taken to a hospital after the incident. Officials did not see any physical injuries on her, CNN reported.

Merriman has maintained that far from hurting Nguyen, he had been trying to keep her from driving after a night out drinking at a club.

The owner of celebrity hotspot Stingaree, where both had partied the night of the incident, said his employees saw Nguyen downing shots of tequila and guzzling a bottle of vodka. Merriman, they said, appeared to be drinking only water.

"I feel sorry for the guy and I think the truth needs to be told," owner James Brennan, told The Associated Press.

“It sounds like she's allergic to the truth," he added about Nguyen’s tweet.
