A California man has pleaded not guilty to kidnapping troubled "Party of Five" actor Jeremy London and forcing him to smoke drugs.
Brandon Adams, 26, was arraigned Tuesday on five charges that include kidnapping and theft, The Associated Press reported.
London, 37, who has admitted to struggling with prescription drugs, said armed men stopped to help him as he was changing a flat tire last Thursday before kidnapping him in his own car.
The bizarre ordeal lasted five hours and only ended when he was able to escape from the gun toting attackers around 3 a.m., according to RadarOnline, which first broke the story.
London claims the men, who had small handguns, menaced him and forced him to "smoke dope and then purchase booze and hand it out in a gang area of Palm Springs,” Palm Springs Police Sergeant Steve Douglas said in a statement.
Douglas said the drugs were likely either crack cocaine or amphetamines.
Cops later found London's car near where one of the alleged assailants lives and arrested Adams.
"By chance, an officer saw [London] and two subjects and thought, ‘That’s nice of them, to stop and help someone change their tire,'" said Sergeant Douglas. "That helped one of our officers to be able to identify the suspects later on.”
Late Thursday morning, London's rep released this statement to E!: "Thankfully, Jeremy London survived his terrorizing ordeal in Palm Springs last week—although understandably shaken and scared, he is currently working closely with law enforcement as they investigate the horrific turn of events. Jeremy is spending quality time in an undisclosed location with family and friends, and appreciates the overwhelming support from his fans."
London, who played Griffin Holbrook in "Party of Five" and Chandler Hampton on "7th Heaven," was recently in rehab for an addiction to prescription drugs, he told People. He was arrested on 2004 for allegedly driving with a suspended license and for possession of a controlled substance, RadarOnline reported.
His twin brother Jason London is also an actor.
